Pound Cake
Recipe from Donnie Stockin. This was her mother's recipe. I first tasted it at my husband's mother's 90th birthday party, April 9, 2005.
2 sticks butter,
melted
3 cups white sugar
6 large eggs
1 tablespoon baking
powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoons
vanilla (or almond or lemon extract)
4 cups sifted white
all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups milk
In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, eggs, baking powder, salt, and vanilla. Alternately mix in the flour and milk. Place in a greased Angel Food Cake Pan and bake in 325 degree oven for 1 hour and then place a pan of water in the oven on a rack underneath the cake and bake an additional 1/2 hour. Remove from oven and let cake cool for ten minutes and then remove to a wire rack to cool. Cake can be served topped with powdered sugar (sprinkle through a colander), a glaze, or with strawberries and whipped cream. Makes 1 large Angel Food Cake. Easily will serve 20.
